Dental implants offer a natural-looking and low maintenance solution to replace missing teeth. A dental implant is a “root” device, usually made of titanium that is surgically placed below the gums into the jawbone. The implant is carefully and painlessly placed into the jaw where the natural root would have been. It’s then left to actually integrate with the jawbone so they fuse together. Once integrated a crown, bridge or denture can be fixed onto the implant.
Dental implants can be used to:
- Replace a single missing tooth
- Replace several missing teeth using a bridge
- Replace all the teeth using bridges or implant-supported dentures
Because the implant fuses to your bone, dental implant restorations feel much like natural teeth. Some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes, such as bridge and dentures.
Are You A Candidate For Dental Implants?
To have dental implants, you need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. If you are interested in getting implants placed in our office but don’t have sufficient bone, Dr. Lindahl may recommend having a routing bone graft procedure. Bone grafting helps you to generate bone in that region. A thorough evaluation will help determine whether you are a good candidate.
